- This book covers most of the different aspect of criminal justice policing, courts, prosecution, etc. It also proposes varies of crime control and the effectiveness of each. This is an overall good book to hold on to as a reference for criminal justice courses.

- This book helps open one's perception of crime control while covering several positions on the topics. Easy to follow and understand. Note that some terminalogy may by refered to differently in other texts. Despite this, it helps to develope a better understanding of how crime is approached while examining findings of effectiveness. One of the best books in my personal libary.

- FOr people who are looking for information on criminals and controlling crime IN America, this book can help in so many ways! Great book.
- Good book
- I needed this book for a class I am taking. The text is so small and I hate that it has those double columns on the pages. I know this was written by a person and not a robot but textbooks should not have typos!! It seems as though the author was trying to appear more intelligent than they actually were so it's a little hard to read. If I had my choice I would not buy this book!! But that's my opinion and I understand if it's needed for a class.
- Mr. Warrall would like you to believe his work is objective, and for the most part open to all of the crime control theories present in America today. And I do give him credit for the exhaustive research to identify all of the current systems today. However, I found that the author wore his political and social views out in the open, and stated them to the detriment of his stated goal. That is to identify past and current trends in crime control, and review their effectiveness as well as provide counter points to the proposed theories. But all to often his counter point was to repeat over and over "But there is research indicating (said theory) is ineffective" etc., and then NEVER show, cite, or speak about what the research found. If you simply removed such statements from this text I would not be surprised to find a book 2/3 it's current size. I noted that the only research found in the book was affiliated with furthering his political agenda, and it was unapologetic in the brash in the assumptions it made. I had hoped for a book with more substance with in it's cover, but I was disappointed and ultimately found no value in Warrall's words. If I have to refer to a scholarly review I will use the Maryland Report, it was objective, informative, and most of all neutral.
