Klawde Evil Alien Warlord Cat #1 Johnny Marciano Emily Chenoweth Robb Mommaerts 9781524787202 Books Reviews
- Klawde has been exiled to earth from his planet. Trying to escape from the rain he rings Raj's doorbell and that is how he becomes a "pet." Raj himself has his own major problem of how to get out of attending Camp Eclipse. His mother is not buying his excuses. Now the two must work together to get Klawde home and Raj home alive from Camp Eclipse.
This is one of the funniest books I have read. I love the use of the first person-point-of view from Klawde and Raj. Klawde is cynical and sarcastic. I like that in a cat! Raj is just desperate. The changing point-of-view works very well together. I liked his teammates at Camp Eclipse and Counselor Turkey Vulture is not to be missed. Even Klawde is impressed by him.
I hope the rest of the series is a good. - I bought this book for my 8 year old avid reader. He LOVED it! It came on a day he was home sick from school, and he read the whole thing in one day. I told him there will be more, and he said he can't wait.
- Our school was lucky enough to have an author visit with Emily Chenoweth today. Since KLAWDE hadn't been published yet, I read excepts provided by and Penguin Random House to each of my 3rd-5th classrooms. Klawde, as befitting an evil alien warlord cat, speaks with a far superior, richly nuanced, and disdainful vocabulary. Raj, his servant/owner, is a fish out of water, having moved from the concrete jungle of Brooklyn to Oregon, where there is so much nature that it's spooky. I loved reading the chapters to my students, using my haughtiest voice for Klawde. When Emily read a chapter I hadn't yet read, I laughed out loud with delight! I read the rest of the book during lunch and loved it. The line of kids asking when Klawde will be available for checkout is long. Highly recommended.
- Klawde had it all. He was the High Commander of his planet, he had sharp claws and fine fur, along with loyal followers. However, all that changes when he was betrayed and sentenced to the worst punishment possible. He was exiled to a small planet named Earth.
Raj had everything he wanted. He lived in a cool apartment in Brooklyn and his friends lived in the same building. All of his favorite stores were in walking distance. Then his mom gets a new job in Elba, Oregon and then he is forced to move. Then the summer begins and Raj has no friends. His mother encourages him to join a nature camp to find new friends.
I thought the book was a fun read. I enjoyed that the book switched back and forth between Raj and Klawde. The dialogue between Klawde and Raj was witty and funny. It was funny seeing everyday human interactions and things from a different perspective. I thought the illustrations were a nice added treat. Overall, a fun and interesting read especially for fans with feline companions. - I thought this was great! A "darker," more serious Wedgie and Gizmo with the evil genius cat who is working his own angle and then the human level of the story. In this case, Klawde and Raj take turns telling the story. This wasn't as laugh-out-loud funny as Wedgie and Gizmo, but it was a lot of fun. The names for all of the cat-related things in Klawde's world were a HOOT! I loved Raj's part of the story, too. I thought Klawde would play "cat" for the whole book, but when he started talking to Raj, I was hooked. I can't wait to read book 2!
- I loved the illustrations of this book and I could hear my son laughing a number of times while reading this book. Will definitely buy the second book as well.
- My almost 9 yr old daughter loved this book. Finished it in two days and is asking for the second edition.
